Les enchaînés

To the tick-tock of a metronome, the lights become shadows, a greyish halo, as an imposing staircase is transformed into a labyrinth of anxious pacing back and forth, the rows of columns and the mouldings an extravagant stage set. Drawing on the visual style of film noir, Karina Champoux and the musician, composer and performer Philippe B take over the café-bar at Agora de la danse with a sombre, eloquent performance. With commanding presence in a strong theatrical incarnation, the two protagonists face the ghosts lurking within, tangled and tortuous, suspended in the past. Under an elegantly sober facade, they mask as best they can the torments that disturb them, intimately connected by a shared tension. Welcomed into a cabaret space, the spectators witness the quest of these two wounded beings, transfixed by lost love and abandonment. The musical notes of an original score played live on the piano fall one by one, solemn and powerful, like tributes to the master of suspense Alfred Hitchcock, and to the architecture of the site.
